AFRIEDO is currently present in five Counties within the Republic of Kenya. Even though the Organization has plans to expand in the region, our main focus is currently in Nairobi, Baringo, Samburu, Laikipia, and Garissa.
In Nairobi County, our operations are mainly in the five sub-counties of Kasarani, Makadara, Embakasi South, East, and Central. Kasarani Sub-County is home to 786,656 individuals spread over 135.33 square Kilometers. This is roughly 5,768.5 persons per square Kilometer. The Sub-County is also home to between 10,000 and 11,500 refugees. Major challenges in the Sub-County include widespread youth unemployment, food and water scarcity, and a high rate of informal settlements. Cases of child protection and Gender-based violence (GBV) are on the increase.
The population of Embakasi Central Sub-county is estimated at 185,948 residents spread over 14.3 Square Kilometers. This is roughly 10,206 individuals per square Kilometer. Embakasi Central is home to five electoral wards of Kayole North, Kayole Central, Kayole South, Komarock, and Matopeni/ Spring Valley Wards.
Other than Nairobi, AFRIEDO operates in Baringo and Laikipia North. Wards covered include Sosian, Segera, and Mugogodo West and East. In Garissa, we are present at Dadaab Refugee Complex at IFO, IFO2, and Dagahaley Refugee Camps.
